ATA (Live at Robert Johnson)
PRINCE OFF (Leftorium)
LEFTORIUM @ BAZAAR
63 Rue des Capucins/Kapucijnstraat Brussels Belgium
Upon returning to Frankfurt from a life-altering club night in Barcelona, Ata decided that he wanted to be a DJ, and has since come a long way – from his early days at Delirium record store, unforgettable nights at the Omen or his seminal Wild Pitch Club. Since then Ata has co-founded the (very nearly holy) trinity of the Playhouse, Klang and Ongaku labels, unhearthing artists such as Isoléé, Losoul, Ricardo Villalobos or Alter Ego and he is the mastermind behind the now legendary Robert Johnson club in Offenbach plus its Live at Robert Johnson offshoot label. Amongst all this it would be easy to forget that he is still a DJ at the prime of his powers if it weren’t for his marathon sets that still have the power to turn lives around. Because let’s face it: There are more DJs in the world than basil leaves in Liguria and they come in all sizes, shapes and colors. Despite the latest developments and modern hotchpotch like laptop-deejaying there still is this almost metaphysical little extra pinch that’s so hard to describe and that separates the wheat from the chaff. And for that Ata is a prime example.
How exactly this man manages to fascinate when stoically spinning records for hours on end, mixing emotion and intention, guiding the crowd is his secret. We may assume it is experience.
